Fast Food a la Paw

Fast Food for your Paw may be an option sometimes. Likely not the best daily diet, special occasions, being on the road, in a hurry, or your Paw is sick and needs to be bribed to eat. For Harley Dog Boss of the Paw Crusaders, Fast Foods were the only things he’d eat after his limb saving surgery, the antibiotics and chemotherapy either cut his appetite or caused nasty side effects like nausea and gastric reflux. Fast food treats and medications were lifesaving for Harley giving him critical calories for many months. Mom Christy, worried his diet wasn’t as healthy as it should be, but Harley’s oncologist said, “... let him eat anything he wants”. Harley had lost 50 lbs. since being diagnosed with Osteosarcoma! To stop the wasting process and provide energy for survival, Harley’s fast-food menu saved the day. Adding probiotics, omega 3’s and sneaking in small amounts of good kibble with the treats helped Harley make his fast food healthier; the end result, Harley ate, tolerated his treatments, and finally regained his strength.

Jersey Mike’s Subs

Harley loves his Jersey Mike’s, their Roast beef and American cheese subs literally kept him alive for months. The fresh Jersey style baked bread topped with the leanest daily carved roast beef beckoned Harley to eat when nothing else would. Harley’s passion for Jersey Mike’s began while hospitalized, recovering from his limb sparing and cancer removing surgery. Jersey Mike’s was delivered to him every day in the ICU, it was the only food he’d eat. Now months after surgeries and chemotherapy, Harley still dives into the Jersey Mike’s bag his mom Christy sets into the passenger seat, rummaging excitedly through the wrapping to tear pieces off his favorite sub, devouring half a foot long before she can even start the car. Tearing bites off half a foot long himself before she even has a chance to pull out of the parking lot.

Harley begs his mom to go to Jersey Mike’s at least twice a week, stands up as they round the corner, knowing where the car is headed. His Jersey Mike’s friends know his order, and no matter who orders rare roast beef, triple meat with American cheese on white bread is for their celebrity Harley, Canine Cancer Survivor. Thank you, Jersey Mike’s, you achieved your mission of “Giving ... Making a Difference in Someone's Life”, big time. Harley and Christy will be forever grateful!

MacDonalds and Starbucks

Harley appetite stimulators after surgery, chemo and to counter medication effects. McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder with cheese plain (no pepper, salt, or condiments of any kind) if away at a dog show or it’s a Paw Crusader birthday are favorites. If on a diet, hamburger patties, just the patties, are always a hit. Mom Christy’s favorites are their super salads and decadent strawberry shakes. Thank you, McDonalds, for your super treats, we love them.
